Box Tops & Labels for Education
Don’t forget to send in your Box Tops and Labels for Education each week! The PTA is doing a contest each month to see which class and student has the best participation! We want to win : )
Remind: In order to keep everyone updated and in attempt to reach the parents quickly, we are going to use Remind. It is an app/web based program that allows us to message you with reminders. We will still make sure things are written in their agenda but this allows Ms. Moore and Miss Wilson to get a hold of parents quickly. Please use this link to join: www.remind.com/join/e6a67g
Reading
We are continuing to read our biographies! We are becoming experts on all different types of subjects, events, and people. We have been working on retelling/summarizing using our hand as a graphic organizer. We also worked on the reason why behind an author would write a book about a person or event. What makes it so important? We will be wrapping up the unit next week and they will have to show all that they ahve learned by making an anchor chart. We will celebreate our learning on Thursday.
PLEASE make sure your kiddo is reading at home!! Remember that one of the best ways to help your kiddo become a better reading is by having them read every night. Some students haven't been filling out their reading log which tells us they haven't been reading. Please make sure you have your kiddo read about 20 minutes a night. Since I can never remember to give out a reading log, there is one attached here on the website.
Writing
We are working hard on our opinion writing. This week we have spent our writing time writing about pollution. They have been writing letters to Mrs. Robson or the PTA. Some of written books or scripts for commericals. Some have just written papers. It is exciting to see them make these connections. We will wrap all of it up next week. When we get back from winter break, we will be working on what kind of cause do we care about and how can we write in a way that will make people want to care as well.
Science/Social Studies
We have had a great week this week. The kids have been working SOOOOOO hard on their pollution solutions. They are really getting into researching and coming up with a way to tell the class about their solution. We can see they are learning so much and it is amazing. Can't wait to see their final products next week :)
We sent home their study guide yesterday. It is due Monday. We will go over it and make sure that everyone is on the same page. Their test is Tuesday the 20th.
Please make sure you are sending those plastic tops and coke cans so that they can make some recycled projects in art! We need all different colors!

Math
This week we worked on two step word problems and area. We even tried to figure out the missing side if we know what the area is. We added in a review on bar graphs and today we talked about line plots. We sent home some skills that need to be reviewed for their test on Wednesday the 21st. Please send back the review guide on Tuesday so that we can make sure everyone has been studying and working hard :)
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE still continue practicing multiplication facts. We can not stress how important it is to know these facts. Everything is building off of those facts. We have noticed that many kids aren't studying their facts! Area is so hard for them when they don't know their facts. We really need the kids to be studying those facts. The more successful they are with their fluency, the easier the rest of the year will be. We will be giving the kiddos plenty of tools and strategies to help make them successful but please know that we need your help as well.

A note from Mrs. Robson about Milestones:
- We are pleased to announce that a refreshed Experience Online Testing Georgia website is now available with a demonstration test for each of three grade bands – grades 3-5, grades 6-8, and high school – with sample items from each content area. While the 3-5 and 6-8 grade bands will contain Science and Social Studies items, please be reminded that these two content areas will be assessed in grades 5 and 8 only. The primary purpose of this website is to provide exposure to the online platform that students will utilize when taking the Georgia Milestones tests. The highlight of this year's refresh of the site are examples of multiple-part, multiple-select, and evidence-based selected-response items. As communicated, these item types will be operational beginning with the Winter 2016 End of Course (EOC) administration in the areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics and with the Spring 2017 End of Grade (EOG) and EOC. These item types will be field tested, for the first time, in Science and Social Studies in Spring 2017 for both the EOC and EOG. Items that are field tested do not impact the scores of students. In addition, questions 1-5 will illustrate the Reading & Evidence-Based Writing section of ELA.
