A friendly reminder that money is due to Danielle Blum by September 11th. Remember, they are asking for a one time donation of $20.00. This will cover so many different kinds of supplies throughout the year. It also covers the t-shirts we wear during field trips and on field day. If you have any further questions, please send me an email.

Reading:
Next week we will continue to look at character traits. We will focus on making predictions based on how a character acts, a character’s motivation, and a character’s strengths and weaknesses. Next week students will be getting a reading study guide. We will have our first reading test tentatively on September 10.
Writing:
This past week we focused on writing our personal narratives with a storyteller voice instead of a reporter voice. We want our writing to be exciting for our readers which is why we want to use a storyteller voice. Next week we will focus on revising and also adding paragraphs, dialogue, and elaboration.
Math:
3rd grade: This week we really discussed place value and rounding. We worked on rounding to tens and hundreds. We took our 1st quiz yesterday. Up next is addition and subtraction. Any practice you can provide at home will help them grow stronger with the content. Fluency is such an important part of 3rd grade. If you haven’t noticed, most of our homework is posted on the blog. This “pre-lesson” or “pre-work” allows for us to get started right away without having to spend time cutting and pasting. They will be getting a study guide in the next few weeks for their test tentatively scheduled for September 17th.
4th grade: We reviewed rounding and writing numbers in expanded form, number form, and word form. Next, we will focus on addition and subtraction into the hundred thousand place value before moving into multi-step word problems. This is the bulk of their unit. We will discuss strategies to solve word problems and working through key terms. They will have a quiz next Friday the 4th.
Science:
Our first science unit will be on Georgia's habitats. Our test will be the week of the 7th. We will be giving the students everything they need in order to study for their test. Students will be introduced and expected to know the 5 major regions of GA: Mountains, Piedmont, Swamps & Marshes, Coastal Plain, and Ocean. They must also be able to identify species of plants and animals that live in those regions and certain adaptations that allow those plants and animals to thrive there. This week we learned about the covered the Coastal Plains and Mountain regions. Next week, we will finish up the Mountains and Piedmont regions.
Important Dates:

September 7th-Labor Day, No School
Student Council forms due back September 9th at 2:30. No late forms will be accepted
