Reminders:
Chick Fil A spirit night October 5th
Thank you to those parents who voted at Jamba Juice! We won $1,000 grant to help our students in need! We are so excited about this! Thank you again!! :)
Our field trip is on Friday the 7th. I will keep everyone posted on the field trip shirts and the weather!! :)
Box Tops & Labels for Education
Don’t forget to send in your Box Tops and Labels for Education each week! The PTA is doing a contest each month to see which class and student has the best participation! We want to win : )
Remind: In order to keep everyone updated and in attempt to reach the parents quickly, we are going to use Remind. It is an app/web based program that allows us to message you with reminders. Things like "Field trip tomorrow" or "Don't forget to wear green!" or "Social Studies Quiz tomorrow!" We will still make sure things are written in their agenda but this allows Ms. Moore and Miss Wilson to get a hold of parents quickly. Please use this link to join: www.remind.com/join/e6a67g I will check it later this week to see who has joined and remind everyone again to join :) Thanks for trying something new with us that we think will make everyone's life a little easier :)
Reading
We have been working on predicting, envisioning, and retelling while reading a story. We finished reading Stone Fox aloud in class. We will start our new unit on Tuesday. I think the kids will REALLY enjoy reading all kinds of mystery books and trying to solve problems. One of the best ways to help your kiddo become a better reading is by having them read every night. Some students haven't been filling out their reading log which tells us they haven't been reading. Please make sure you have your kiddo read about 20 minutes a night. This is one of the best ways to help them become better readers. We sent home their reading test yesterday. I am sure that you noticed there were two grades on them. I graded the tests and then gave the kids back to add to or fix some of their answers after reviewing expectations. This was more about teaching them how to test than the actual grade. Please know that the reading tests will follow the same format throughout the year. This will help them with milestones. Their grades will get better and better as they learn how to answer in complete sentences and cite evidence.
Writing
We really appreciate all the parents who stepped up and sent in items for our Author's Celebration on Wednesday!! The kids love it! We are starting our next writing unit, information writing. We will become experts on topics and write all we can about it. The kids usually enjoy this unit! Can't wait to see all the topics the kids pick to write about :)
Write Score: We will be participating in Write Score on Wednesday the 5th. This is a practice test for what the writing part of the milestones will look like. It is intended to get the kids familiar with the format. We will do several of these throughout the year. There is nothing to study for or worry about, it is just practice.
Science/Social Studies
We have been working on the branches of government and the types of democracy. There is a lot of information in this unit and we encourage the kids to bring home their interactive notebooks to review their information a couple nights a week. Their test for democracy will be on October 4th. Please look in their interactive notebook for what they should be studying and reviewing for their test. We highlighted all kinds of things in their books that are extra important!
Quizlet:
Here is the link to the quizlet. It will have the Rocks and Minerals Vocabulary on it. This will allow the kiddos to practice their vocabulary anytime and anywhere. We will start rocks and minerals unit Wednesday after we finish democracy. quizlet.com/latest If you don't want to create an account, you are welcome to use the login of: WilsonNPES and the password is panthers16. This way you can access all the study cards without making your own account. Please let me know if you have any issues with this. If you'd like to join with your own account, please use this link to connect to our homeroom: quizlet.com/join/e2Yfg5ZJb
Math
This unit is much more involved and harder than the previous unit. Please know that the homework we send for math is a great way to see what we are learning in class. Also please know that practice at home is another way to help your kiddo become successful with their math facts. We will be starting timed tests eventually. The more successful they are with their fluency, the easier the rest of the year will be. Everything builds off of this unit. This will be involved word problems. We will be giving the kiddos plenty of tools and strategies to help make them successful but please know that we need your help as well. Their test for this unit is tentatively scheduled for November 4th. We will also begin timed multiplication quizzes here soon. This is just to test their fluency!!
