Reading
This week we started reviewing reading skills. We are working on those skills using small passages as well as our new read aloud. We will start a new read aloud after spring break and continue working on strategies to help with reading. Their extra credit packet is full of reading strategies this week! Please make them take the time to read the tips so that they can practice the strategies we teach in class at home.
PLEASE make sure your kiddo is reading at home!! Remember that one of the best ways to help your kiddo become a better reading is by having them read every night. Some students haven't been filling out their reading log which tells us they haven't been reading. Please make sure you have your kiddo read about 20 minutes a night. Since I can never remember to give out a reading log, there is one attached here on the website.
Writing
This week we worked on constructed responses. We worked on expectations of 3rd graders and show them examples of good answers. We worked on different parts of the writing process between now and spring break to make sure that they are prepared for milestones. We have thought out this review unit and think that it will benefit kids of all writing abilities. We even did a practice writing test this week so that they are exposed to what type of questions they might see. We want to make sure that we area ready to answer whatever type of question is thrown at us on the milestones.
Science/Social Studies
We wrapped up Franklin D. Roosevelt We will study Eleanor Roosevelt after spring break! We will continue on with Social Studies biographies and the begin work on our PBL! Please see the link above to sign up for supplies for our PBL!
Please make sure you are sending those plastic tops and coke cans so that they can make some recycled projects in art! We need all different colors!

If you'd like to join with your own account, please use this link to connect to our homeroom: quizlet.com/join/e2Yfg5ZJb
Math
We worked on elapsed time this week. Please check their notebooks for notes and anchor charts to see how we are teaching the kiddos how to figure out elapsed time. Next we will look at capacity and graphs this unit. Graphs are a review for most of the kiddos but time and capacity will be new material. We can not stress enough the importance of the kids learning their multiplication facts. This will be so important on the milestones and during math in 4th grade. 4th grade math teachers expect that students come in knowing their multiplication facts. So please keep practicing :)
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE still continue practicing multiplication facts. We can not stress how important it is to know these facts. Everything is building off of those facts. We have noticed that many kids aren't studying their facts! Area is so hard for them when they don't know their facts. We really need the kids to be studying those facts. The more successful they are with their fluency, the easier the rest of the year will be. We will be giving the kiddos plenty of tools and strategies to help make them successful but please know that we need your help as well.

Other Helpful Information:
- No visitors are allowed in the building at all during the entire testing window of April 12-24.
- Even though your child's grade may not be testing, other grades are testing on different days, as well as students who have make-ups, etc. This includes lunch visitors, too.
- No electronic devices are permitted at school during testing.
- Students will be dropping their backpacks off in another room for test security purposes, but if your child has a smart watch or a Fit Bit, s/he may not wear it while testing.
- There will be no homework or tests given on any of the testing days.
- Some homework may be assigned when there is no testing on consecutive days.
- All testing starts first thing in the morning, so please make sure your child is here BEFORE 7:40.

- If your child wakes up and is feeling sick, please keep them at home!
- If a child gets sick in the middle of testing, there are no "re-dos" for any of the sections. It is best to keep him/her at home to be on the safe side and take the missed parts on make-up days.
- Please make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast!
- Sugary foods can cause drowsiness once they have been digested.

A note from Mrs. Robson about Milestones:
- We are pleased to announce that a refreshed Experience Online Testing Georgia website is now available with a demonstration test for each of three grade bands – grades 3-5, grades 6-8, and high school – with sample items from each content area. While the 3-5 and 6-8 grade bands will contain Science and Social Studies items, please be reminded that these two content areas will be assessed in grades 5 and 8 only. The primary purpose of this website is to provide exposure to the online platform that students will utilize when taking the Georgia Milestones tests. The highlight of this year's refresh of the site are examples of multiple-part, multiple-select, and evidence-based selected-response items. As communicated, these item types will be operational beginning with the Winter 2016 End of Course (EOC) administration in the areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics and with the Spring 2017 End of Grade (EOG) and EOC. These item types will be field tested, for the first time, in Science and Social Studies in Spring 2017 for both the EOC and EOG. Items that are field tested do not impact the scores of students. In addition, questions 1-5 will illustrate the Reading & Evidence-Based Writing section of ELA.
