Next Monday we have Tracy McConaghie, an excellent local counselor, is hosting a parent workshop in the media center @ 11am. The topic is "Setting limits & avoiding power struggles".
Student Council is still collecting Gatorade, Vitamin C, and Powerade bottles! Please send them to Miss Wilson or Mrs. McLeod!
Reading: We are finishing up our nonfiction unit of comparing and contrasting and point of view. Next week we will begin looking at how fiction books written by the same author can have similar themes and characters.
Writing: We are still working on opinion writing. We looked at how to make a plan and put it into action. We looked at writing bold statements as a thesis to make sure our reader knows our opinion. They are really getting into this and have been producing great writing. We also started to look at causes that effect a community as a whole rather than just looking at what they want as individuals. They have broken themselves up into groups and are researching their causes.
Math:
3rd: We have been working on equivalent fractions this week! We looked at how to tell if a fraction was equal by using number lines and pictures. There is a lot of practice material in their interactive notebook and also on IXL. We have a timed multiplication quiz every Friday so please keep practicing your math facts at home every night.
4th: We have been working on the different types of triangles and quadrilaterals this week. We will be putting this all together and reviewing next week. Our test is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday March 8th.
Science: We took our Heat vocabulary quiz yesterday. We will continue with the study of Heat for the next couple of weeks.
