Box Tops & Labels for Education
Don’t forget to send in your Box Tops and Labels for Education each week! The PTA is doing a contest each month to see which class and student has the best participation! We want to win : )
Reading
We finished Stone Fox!! It was so sad but great to see the kids getting into the book! Next up is our mystery unit! Can't wait for them to get started on reading all those fun books!!
We have been working on character traits, setting, and plot. Their homework packet/study guide went home today. It is due back on Tuesday the 3rd. We will have a test on those items on Wednesday October 4th. A study guide will go home towards the end of next week.
One of the best ways to help your kiddo become a better reading is by having them read every night. Some students haven't been filling out their reading log which tells us they haven't been reading. Please make sure you have your kiddo read about 20-30 minutes a night. This is one of the best ways to help them become better readers.
Writing
We have been working on our narratives about a true story. Many have finished that first copy and are already working hard on the next! They love writing these true stories! We will continue to work on those over the next week or so. Next up is informational writing.
Math
We took our unit 1 test today! We will start on unit 2 next week! Remember we are coming up on studying multiplication. Please remember that one of best things you can do for your kiddo is to be practicing their facts at home. This will help them so much in the long run.
Science
We wrapped up our science unit today with their presentations. It was great to see all that they learned! Next up is our first social studies unit, American Indians!
International Space Station
All students at New Prospect ES will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in a 20-minute video conference with astronauts aboard the International Space Station on Monday, October 23rd. Twenty of our students will be selected to ask their questions directly to the crew on the International Space Station. All the students in the school will see and hear the students asking the questions as well as the astronauts responding to their questions. The event will take place at our school.
We want every student at NPES to consider submitting a question. [NASA will have the final say on which questions are selected.] Students should start coming up with some good questions to submit. (A good question is one that cannot be "Googled".) We have created a special website for students to learn about the ISS and crew in order to generate good questions. https://talktotheiss.weebly.com
